Pinkies, Swimmers, and Strawberry Shortcake

So the last couple of days have been full of adventures. Allie continues to get better and better at swimming. She can dive (with a little help from me pushing her down) to the bottom of the pool and retrieve up to four diving sticks at a time and then swim back up. I have no idea how she picked all this up so suddenly but I'm loving it. Here is a picture of her and her little friend Abby today getting ready for the pool.
Last night Danny hurt his pinkie playing racquetball. Ugh! I felt so bad for him but those of you who know me well probably know that I cannot tolerate seeing such injuries. Sometimes ones w/o blood are even worse for whatever reason, so luckily his friend took him to the Urgent Care. He is so brave, didn't seem to be in much pain, and it turns out luckily it was just dislocated and not broken, so that's good. I honestly felt sick until about noon today just thinking about it. I swear I don't know what my problem is. I think Danny was more worried about me then himself.
Saturday we went to the worst event ever. We found out that there was this children's fair going on, with all of these fun things (supposedly) to do, and it turns out that it was basically just a vendor fair type of thing, with booths full of people trying to sell us stuff. I did score a cute sling for the little Lily, which she loves. Pictured below was the "entertainment." (That's for you Carrie!) Allie calls her Strawberry CakeCake. Also Lily and I sporting her new sling, in which she is being very reverent.

Allie's new trick

So ever since we moved to Arizona we've been making very gradual progress with Allie learning to swim. We got here right after swimming lessons started for the summer, and although they have year round classes indoors, they are only like once a week, which I felt wouldn't really help her that much because she'd forget what she learned by the next class. So I just kind of decided to teach her myself, asking friends and strangers we'd see at the pool if they had any tips for us. It took about a week to get her to put her face in the water. Then for a couple of weeks we worked on her jumping in, and going underwater for a couple of seconds before I brought her up, and then sort of helped her glide back to the wall. Then she learned to swim the width of the stairs going into the pool just on the top step, so in like 8 inches of water. Then this weekend Danny and I were talking about how we'd get her to start swimming in deeper water, and he asked her to swim on the second step, not just the first, which she refused to do. We didn't want to press the matter. Seems like each time I'd try to force her to learn something new she doesn't want to do it until it's her idea, so we went out to the middle of the pool to play "Rocketship!" Which we just were throwing her back and forth between us, and when I caught her I said "ok Allie, swim to Daddy," (who was about 4 feet away) and I pushed her off and she totally did it! After that she couldn't get enough, just kept saying "more swimming! more swimming!" so Danny ran home for the camera and she showed off some of her newly acquired skills. I can't even tell you how proud of her we are. I mean she'd been making some little steps, but to suddenly make such a huge stride in just minutes was really amazing! All she needed was a little confidence. She had learned the steps individually, kicking, blowing bubbles, putting her head underwater... but then she realized she could put them all together. I'm taking her again first thing in the morning to make sure she hasn't forgotten anything. I just can't tell you how proud I am of my baby girl!

Lily - 2 months

Here is a little video of little Lily Lou at 2 months. She is just an amazing little girl and we love her to pieces. Now that she's started smiling we just can't get enough of this little sweetie.

I get it now.

I think I'm the last person on the planet to start reading this series but I can finally see why everyone's talking about it! I just started the first book this weekend, so nobody tell me anything, but I'm loving it. I started watching the trailer for the movie and had to turn it off because I don't want to ruin the book. I don't even know how long ago these books started coming out, but I'm glad I don't have to wait around to find out whats going to happen. Ok, short post today, I have to get back to my book. :)
