Christmas 2007

Christmas this year was really wonderful. It was really nice (for me at least) this year because I was all done with my Christmas shopping probably by the first week of December, so it was nice and relaxing, and probably the first time I wasn't running around on Christmas Eve trying to finish up. Christmas morning Allie woke up first, as usual, and came down to see a train set, or "choo-choo" that we had set up the night before. She loved it. I now understand why parents love to spoil their kids so much, just seeing them get so excited is just so fun. So she got to go through her stocking and find all kinds of fun things, and then we opened presents. Her main gift this year from Grandma and Grandpa Stansfield was a kitchen set, which she LOVES. She hasn't stopped playing with it since I set it up. After we opened all of our presents, we relaxed for a little while, and then began preparing for the Christmas party we had in the evening where Danny's family came over. Almost all of his siblings were there, three of his brothers and one of his sisters and families were all there. We started off with a few games of Capture the Flag in the snow in the backyard, then we had dinner. All the kids had a blast playing the Wii all night long, and the adults (am I an adult now? Crazy!) played games and had a good time. Danny surprised me big time with a new video camera which is like the size of a tic-tac box its so tiny and does everything imaginable. I died I was so happy. The one we got right before Allie was born just was never really all that great, so this is a major improvement, and I'm thrilled. Anyway today is Allie's birthday. Danny is off picking up my parents from the airport, and I'm baking an Elmo cake for the party tonight. More on that later. I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.

Allie can now smile upon command, which is really funny because its always a little awkward, but cute that she can do it.
Capture the flag in the backyard. As you can see we've gotten a lot of snow so far this year. :( We are still trying to figure out why we live in Utah since we hate the cold. Too many cute cousins for Allie to play with I suppose...

Allie just hung out on the middle line and guarded... something. Not sure whose team she was on but she liked being included.

Santa and Allie 2006

So this is Allie's picture last year taken with Santa... not sure if we're going to try to attempt it again this year but I saw a similar picture on my cousin Emily's page that made me laugh and remember this awesome picture... My mom's favorite thing about this picture is that she is the one that Allie is reaching out for. I was actually not present at the time or else I'm not sure I would have subjected her to such torture. I just hope they paid that guy well.

Elf Yourself!

This is way fun, check it out!

Turn up your speakers if you can...

30 days of Christmas!

Well in our family we start celebrating Christmas the day after Thanksgiving. Nothing but Christmas music is played all day long, we get the tree and decorations up, and thus starts the month long Christmas party. This year was great because Allie was the chief Christmas tree decorator, and she did a really good job. Every single ornament was about two feet off the ground, mostly in clumbs as you can see. Ever since we've put it up she reorganizes the ornaments several times a day. We're especially excited for Christmas this year because Allie will be a lot more involved than last year, and we'll be having some family in town throughout the holidays.

More Tests :(

Well a quick update on how Allie is doing, she seems fine, and isn't really having any effects from her seizure last week, but after following up with her doctor he insisted that she go in to see a Neurologist. We had three appointments this week, and will probably have another one next week before they will be able to determine if it was anything brain wave related. Lets hope not, and just hope that it was more because she'd been sick and dehydrated, and low blood sugar, etc. Anyway thanks again for everyone who has been checking up on her and everything.

Very Scary Weekend

Well we had quite a scare this weekend. Little Allie had been sort of sick at the end of last week, not eating a whole lot and just was sick to her stomach. We weren't overly worried since it had only been a day or so, and figured we'd see how she was on Monday before taking her in to the doctor. Saturday though we were home and it had been snowing for about 24 hours straight so we weren't planning on going anywhere when Allie suddenly had a seizure. I have never in my life been so scared. Danny and her had been watching T.V. and I was upstairs and I heard her scream out and then Danny started yelling and I came and grabbed her and she was stiff as a board, eyes rolled in oposite directions in the back of her head, and she was having a seizure. We called 911 and due to the snow it took the paramedics awhile to arrive. They kept us on the phone and gave us directions on what to do. She began to come out of after about 2 minutes (2 minutes of me flipping out of course) and finally her eyes began to start focusing a little and she was sort of looking at me and then she immediatly fell asleep. The paramedics arrived and took us to Alta View Hospital, where they checked her out and felt like she needed further treatment and evaluation but they weren't overly concerned that she was going to have another one immediatly so they transported us to Primary Children's Hospital, where they kept us there for two nights and just kept a close eye on Allie, did hundreds of tests, etc, and then we were realeased yesterday. It was sooooo scary I think I nearly had a heart attack. I could think about nothing but the worst possible scenerios, but luckily everything seems to be ok now. Turns out it could have been a few different things that caused it, possibly a virus she has that was giving her the stomach flu, which CAN cause seizures, or, because she'd been sick and not eating her blood sugar was very low, and she was deydrated, etc. Basically she may never have another one again or she might, and if she does we'll go in for further tests. Anyway it was a horrible weekend but luckily we're home now and she's as happy and as cute as ever, so we're thankful for that, and for everyone who helped us out and for all the phone calls and visits, etc. Sorry I haven't called everyone back yet. But it was so nice knowing people were thinking about us. I took a few pictures here, this one in the ambulance is the second trip when they moved us, so we were not quite as worried at this point, or I obviously wouldn't have even thought about taking a picture. But she just looked so cute I was glad I had my camera phone on me. The other one is her in the hospital, hooked up to 4 different machines and being a trooper. Luckily they had plenty of Elmo videos to get us by.

Word Verification? One of life's greatest mysteries... to me.

Can anyone explain to me what the point of word verification is for? Whenever I leave a message on someones blog, or reply to certain emails through eBay, or make airline reservations, or do a number of different things online many sites ask for a word verification. I just don't get it. Is it to avoid some sort of fraud? Like if some bad person was using your credit card, or even worse, your blogger ID (dum dum dummmm) to cause some mischief would they be unable to type the proper letters in for the word verification? On eBay, the message they place above it is: "In our ongoing efforts to make eBay as safe as possible, we have added this security precaution to prevent inappropriate use of our site. This isn't your password and won't change your account information." I just don't see how typing in a few random letters helps anything! Is it because identity thieves cannot decipher gibberish?

Please someone, if there is a simple answer to this I'd love to hear it.

Cute Cousins

This is Allie and her cousin Libby who is 7 months younger. Libby, or "Ibby" as Allie is starting to call her is one of Allie's favorite people on this planet. We all just went out to lunch and Allie and Libby were in the back seat having an in debth conversation about Daddy and Elmo. They are both so cute and we love having Libbers (and Tommy and Jamie of course!) live so close by.

7 Things I have Learned about Danny

GUEST BLOGGER!!! Lindsay does not know that I am posting this

7 Things I have Learned about Lindsay:

Yes This is Lindsay's everloving husband Danny, and I have decided to reveal seven secrets that I have learned about Lindsay since we have been married:

1. Lindsay is a perfect wife. You could not ask for a better wife. She loves me so much and is always finding new ways to show it. She is sweet, fun, funny, gorgeous, patient, and my best friend.

2. Lindsay knows what she wants. I have never met anyone who knows what she wants and just works till she gets it. When she has her mind set on something she is determined and it is a beautiful thing to watch. She wanted to start a business, we started a business. She wanted to learn photography, she bought a camera and enrolled in classes. She knew we needed a better house, in a matter of hours our house was on the market and we were looking for a new one.

3. You may have thought you met a patient person, but Lindsay is the MOST patient person I have ever met. There are so many reasons she could lose her patience with Allie and I but she doesn't. She is so good to roll with the punches (no I don't hit her) and deal with situations with poise and control.

4. Lindsay is deathly afraid of public speaking. Every time she's been asked to speak in church she gets no sleep, and you can see when she starts sweating, I mean glowing, that it is on her mind.

5. Lindsay is 10 years old at heart. Lindsay still enjoys Nancy Drew, a cabbage patch doll made for her years ago, has a pair of Phoenix Suns boxer shorts, LOVES brownies and milk, she watches Spongebob Squarepants, can't turn left on a bike (LOL) refuses to say grown up words for certain parts of the anatomy, and is the most loyal friend on the planet.

6. Lindsay is absolutely beautiful in every way. From head to toe. Her personality, her smile, and have you seen her butt?

7. Lastly, That I love her more than anything in this world.

Tagged... Time to learn more about ME!

I was tagged by Leslie to share 7 random facts about myself. She is curious to know if there is anything she doesn't know about me... I doubt I can come up with anything but I'll try. Please excuse the dorky picture of me but I figured I should post a picture and this is actually the only recent one I could find.

1. I have a strange obsession with NBA basketball. It started 18 years ago when I suddenly realized that I liked and was pretty good at playing basketball, and found out that there was a professional team right there in the great state of Oregon! So I became a huge Blazer fan, and have followed them closely ever since. Since they invented NBA League Pass I've subscribed every year, and 82 nights of the year, (yes, that's eighty-two) Danny and I arrange our social schedule around the Blazers' basketball games. We've said many times that its a good thing the majority of the games are in the winter so we don't want to go outside anyway... Also it's a good thing I was able to convert Danny to being a Blazer fan... or else one of them would have to go. :) j/k.

2. If there was one thing that I could choose to be good at I would choose to be artistic. I have ALWAYS wished that I had even half the artistic ability that my siblings have. Monique and Andy got it, Hilary and I didn't. I can't paint, sculpt, or even doodle. Danny always jokes that when I draw a heart it looks like a liver. Even Allie can draw better circles then me. Hilary did once sell a painting of a raccoon to an old (yes probably half blind) lady. It was a pretty good painting...

3. I like to read, although I don't really have a lot of time to do it these days. I don't really read to gain any sort of amazing insight on life, I don't really like reading anything political, or philosophical, I just like to read purely for entertainment. The longest book I ever read was that 900 page Harry Potter book, but my all time favorite series is Nancy Drew. I know, I feel like I'm 10 just admitting it. But Danny is always bringing them home for me and I just love reading them. They are simple, interesting, predictable, (so I don't have to spend too much time actually concentrating) and quite enjoyable. Pick one up at your local library. Now I sound like Lavar Burton on Reading Rainbow... "you don't' take my word for it..."

4. I am a member of D.P.A. Dr. Pepper Anonymous. I am an addict, and I know it. They need to develop a patch.

5. I am told that I am a very fast chewer, but slow eater. I never realized this before my roommate at the time, and now sister-in-law Molly pointed it out that apparently I chew like a chipmunk. At the same time, I'm extremely slow in actually finishing a meal. Whenever Danny and I eat he is always completely finished by the time I've taken three bites. Three extremely well chewed bites though!

6. I sleep walk, sleep talk, and sleep drive. One time in college I actually got in my car and drove to the Laie shopping center and parked out in front of Foodland. Sure it was only about 1/2 of a mile away but I was dead asleep and woke up who knows how much later and nearly peed my pants I was so freaked out I'd actually done that.

7. I have some random possibly made up disease possibly not made up disease that whenever I see/think/hear about anything even remotely gruesome, bloody, or painful, I instantly get sick, sometimes dizzy, sometimes nauseous, and have sometimes even passed out. I passed out in Wal Mart when I got my ear pierced. Nearly passed out when I got my belly button pierced. I had to lay down on the cold tile for like 15 minutes. I passed out in 7th grade Jewelry class when the teacher discussed what would happen if you got the jewelry saw stuck in your hand, and I kid you not as I am writing this I am suddenly feeling kind of queasy. Ok, end of discussion.

Ok well there you have it. A small peek into my quirks. I will now tag... Carrie, Mical, Emily, Jamie, Monique, Meghan and Sarah. So basically everyone on my blog list! I'm only leaving out people that I know Leslie also tagged, so don't feel like I don't like you. Yay for you all! No pressure... I didn't actually respond to Leslie's challenge for a couple of weeks. I need to be a better blogger.

My New Administrative Assistant

If for no better reason then to put some distance between the beginning of this blog, and that hideous picture of me with Allie on Halloween, I figured it was time to leave a post. What a crazy week this has been for me, and last week. It's just been full of making t-shirts of course, yard work (leaves EVERYWHERE), having my parents here visiting which was fun, and working on a new business that Danny and I are setting up. Since I've been getting busier, I decided to start hiring some people, and here is my newest employee.

So far things are working out great with her. She answers all my calls, responds to emails, and works for fruit snacks. That's my kind of worker. If you do happen to reach her when you call, be prepared to have a conversation about Doggies, Mama, Daddy, Milk and Snacks. Those are her favorite topics.

Halloween 2007

Yesterday as you know was Halloween and Allie certainly enjoyed it. We took her trick-or-treating around the block, and since she can't quite say "trick-or-treat" she just said "snack" and then "bye-bye." She was a hit. All day long anyone that saw her commented on how cute our little chicken was. We went over to Danny's office and they had a huge Halloween thing going on over there, everything was just all decorated and tons of candy and everything. Go eBay!

Sunday Allie's cousin Libby came over and we took some pictures of the girls in their costumes together.

Shark Cages!

Ok so for Danny's birthday we did the shark cages again and this time it was way cooler than last time. First of all, the sharks were all several feet bigger than the ones we saw last time, and we saw a baracuda which was really neat, and there was a jelly fish in the cage with us! All this just added to the danger and excitement. :) I did get totally sick on the boat, but it was worth it and we had a great time.

So what they do is take you out 3 miles in to the ocean to this spot where they used to have a bunch of fishing boats, so the sharks got used to coming around the boats anytime they heard a motor because they could get some fish. So now they go out there, drop this cage off the back end of the boat, stick you in there with a snorkel, and start throwing bits of fish off the boat til the sharks come swarming around you. It's really cool, and the first few minutes its kind of freaky but soon you are able to relax and they come up so close to you. Last time i reached through the cage and touched one but this time it was a little choppier in the water and we were moving around a lot more so I figured it would be best to stay inside the cage. Really cool though, do it next time you go to Hawaii!

Pumpkin Patch

Yesterday Allie and I went to the pumpkin patch to pick out her pumpkin. We had a ward party last night so we had to get one at the last minute. She had a great time, other then when she got scared by a talking vampire with red eyes. He scared me too.

Take a chance on me!

Please tell me you guys saw this episode, I just about died. I think Angela liked it. She needs something good to happen, after the whole Sprinkles catastrophe. By the way, shame on all of you for not telling me how awesome Heroes is. I watched Season One while I was in Hawaii and I'm totally hooked!

Back from da kine

Ok well we are back. We got back late Sunday night, and had a blast!! We needed that vacation so bad, and we just had so much fun. We stayed at Danny's parents house, and they took such good care of us. Allie got to spend a lot of time with Grandma and Grandpa Stansfield while Danny and I got to do our own thing, then we'd take all the kids to the beach to play. We went to the shark cages for Danny's birthday, those pictures will get posted once the underwater camera gets developed. Ok here we go... This first picture is of us on the Ali'i Kai Catamaran, which I used to work on with Danny's brother (top right). Clockwise starting with Danny, Allie, Me, Molly (Danny's sister, my college roomate, her family lives in Laie), Sa (being distracted by the waitress), Nate, Elise, Mom & Dad Stansfield. It was really fun going back on the boat, since its been several years since I worked there.

We went out on the deck and Allie got quite windblown which was cute, and I was just glad she didn't end up like the guy on the sign behind her. Who falls like that? Seriously!

Danny and I and Allie on the Ali'i Kai. It's a dinner cruise, and I danced hula and was a cocktail waitress. I got to wear a mumu. It was really ugly... I'll have to dig up a picture of me in it one of these days.

Allie playing at the beach. She loved it. We had to pull her out because she kept running in too far and and did several face plants in the water but she didn't care, just got up, spit out the water, and kept going. She had to keep up with her cousins!

We took all the kids to the Waikiki Aquarium one day, they all loved it. We got to see all kinds of cool stuff, and that means a lot coming from me who isn't much of a fish person. It was just fun seeing Allie get really excited.

Molly has such amazing kids. We had so much fun with them, and if I wasn't deathly afraid of her karate skills I would have kidnapped all four of them. I'm hoping they move to Utah soon, I need to see them more than once a year.

Here's Danny being awesome. He is a blackbelt in Tai Qwan Do, so that's why I never mess with him.

Here is Eli running out in the ocean, and then the five cousins at the beach. If you haven't noticed... we spent a lot of time at the beach. :)

So funny classic Hawaii story...Danny cut his foot really bad while we were having dinner at Crouching Lion one night, so we went to Kahuku Hospital to get him checked out. When we walked up there was this guy loitering outside and I was thinking he was either going to attack us, or break into our car. Later, Danny told me he thought he was going to ask us for money.... anyway so we went in, got him all signed in and when the doctor showed up it was the 'bum' we saw outside the hospital! Aaaah! It was pretty funny. I think he must have been drunk because other than the totally shabby appearance and not shaving for 3 days, he clearly didn't know what he was doing, dropping his tools on the ground and everything while he was working on Danny's foot. He gave him some mysterious "numbing medicine" he called it, which did nothing, I think it was probably Kool Aid or something, and then basically took a chainsaw to Danny's foot. Poor guy. He's doing ok though now. Anyway... there is plenty more to tell but I'll save that for another time. Blogging is hard work.

If anybody needs me...

...I'll be in Hawaii! Yep, we're taking off at 4:30 tomorrow morning for a much needed vacation. We are going for Danny's birthday, and because it snowed here last weekend and that is just no fun at all. Allie Brooke is looking forward to playing with her cousins, and Danny and I are excited to do some of our favorite Hawaii stuff. Last year when we went we just relaxed and did nothing, which was great, but this year we are ready for action, and plan on doing a lot of hiking, snorkling, swimming, and da kine. ;) We're going to see if we can fit in another trip to the shark cages, if so I'll get an underwater camera so I can post some pictures. Or, I'll just post pictures from when we did it 5 years ago, and you'll never know the difference. I'm just that sneaky. Anybody who needs anything fun brought back from Hawaii just send me an email or a text or something with your requests. Have a fun week everyone and I'll see if I can get on midway during the trip and post some exciting news. We'll be staying with Danny's parents so it should be pretty easy to get online at some point.

This is no time for joking gigantic turkey sub!

It's a busy day here at Shibby Shirts World Headquarters, and there is just one thing that is helping me get through it. Every couple of hours or so, I watch this, and it makes me happy again. Thanks Danny for finding this!

The Great Basement Remodel of '07

Ok so I've been meaning to post pictures of Carrie's and my triumphant paint/tile job on my basement of my new house. We did it a couple of weeks ago but I've been a little slow in getting these up. I wasn't even a blogger while we were doing it, so look how far I've come! So basically the story starts like this. Once upon a time Lindsay, Danny, and Allie moved into a house that they loved, however the basement (which is also Lindsay's office, Allie's playroom, and a family room, etc.) was totally ugly. Ok well some people might like it, for example the people who lived here before us, but we didn't. Two colors of green paint, seperated by a lovely floral border
paper (bleh!) and green tile around the fireplace that matched neither color of paint or color of wall paper. So one day Carrie was over and I was talking about how much I hated it when she volunteered to help me re-do it. Thus began a week of 3 hour trips to home depot, painting, tiling, sledgehammering holes in the wall, and a great deal of learning. Neither of us had ever taken on a tiling project on our own so it was way fun, and now we feel we can conquer anything. (Except for Carrie moving. :(:(:( I have to cry myself to sleep.) Keep in mind, no decorating has been done yet in the whole house, and in this picture of the grand finale I've taken out the part of the room that my office takes up, because it is a D I S A S T E R. But basically we painted the walls a nice warm gray color, and then two accent walls in chocolate brown. Carrie painted the mantel, and the tiling is many colors, including the colors of the walls, carpet, etc. It looks rad. :) Thanks Carrie for everything!
